The award is given annually to clinical nurse specialists who demonstrate leadership, advanced practice clinical skills, research application, evidence-based practice, outcomes-focused practice, cost containment, quality assurance, mentoring, problem solving and communication with patients, families, and staff.
Recipients receive travel, lodging, and registration expenses to attend the AACN National Teaching Institute® and Critical Care Exposition, where the Circle of Excellence awards are presented. There are four award categories: visionary leader awards, leadership awards, practice and research awards, and chapter awards.
